This is a fantastic opportunity to join our Internal Audit team on an initial 8-month maternity cover basis. You'll be working in a fast paced environment, helping the business implement an exciting business strategy through the provision of timely, incisive and value-adding compliance, advisory and risk management engagements.

With responsibility for the end-to-end execution of audit and risk engagements, the output of your work will have a direct impact on ensuring effective financial and non-financial operations of the company, commanding top management and board attention.
The position reports to the Group Head of Internal Audit. Limited travel is expected for this role of less than 10%.

Key purpose statement of the Group Internal Audit Function.

The Group Internal Audit function covers our Virgin Atlantic, Virgin Holidays and Virgin Cargo business units, providing an independent and objective assurance service on behalf of the Board and Audit Committee, in line with corporate governance requirements. Our primary aim is to help the group implement effective systems to ensure financial, commercial and operational risks are identified and addressed properly, and that adequate control frameworks exist across the full range of operations and activities. We also provide advisory services to management, designed to add value and improve the effectiveness of Group operations.

Day to day

Directly contribute to the development, review and co-ordination of the yearly risk-based audit plan and the mechanism to report progress against such plans on a regular basis.

Develop audit scopes and programmes that demonstrate commercial awareness and address key business risks.

Undertake end-to-end audits, working both independently and as part of a team, including scoping, fieldwork, reporting and close out.

Provide pragmatic advice and convincing audit recommendations that drive genuine improvements in the control environment, and obtaining senior management agreement and buy in.

Provide targeted advisory engagements on a planned and ad hoc basis to stakeholders at all levels.

Contribute to business forums and discussions, providing risk and controls insights.

Support the monitoring, reporting and escalation of open audit and enterprise risk management actions.

Identifying, sharing and promoting best practice in internal auditing within Group Internal Audit and throughout the Group.

About you

With a demonstrable track record in delivering high quality internal audit services, preferably gained in a professional practice or large multinational corporate, you will possess proven value-adding audit experience. You’ll be degree educated (or equivalent) with one or more professional qualifications such as CPA, ACA, ACCA, CIA, CISA, or similar.

You will be data-savvy, comfortable using a range of technologies and data-analysis techniques to inform your audit programmes and testing approaches. Ideally, you will have experience with auditing software such as ACL and IDEA, and/or advanced excel auditing skills.

You will have an advanced understanding of a range of risk and control frameworks, and the ability to benchmark company performance using your first-hand knowledge and best-practice examples. You'll be a good communicator who is able to establish and maintain effective working relationships throughout the organisation via an open and consulting approach. In addition, you will have the ability to gather, analyse, and evaluate facts and prepare and present concise oral and written reports.
