In a nutshell

Reporting to the CFO; this role leads our Financial Accounting (which includes the Revenue Accounts and Working Capital organisations), activities for both Virgin Atlantic & Virgin Holidays.

It is responsible for delivering accurate financial results to internal and external stakeholders, ensuring a strong Financial control framework and is in compliance with all regulatory authorities.

Day to day

People Leadership

Working with the Finance Leadership Team (FLT), provide senior leadership and management to continue to develop and build a high performing team, both in the UK and offshore. (approx. direct/indirect team size of circa 200)

You will be expected to lead on the development of the overall finance functions and business issues, as well as the leadership of your team

Set clear direction, strategy and expectations of success

Ensure employee engagement levels hit expected targets

Drive process re-engineering and controls

Motivate the team to build and maintain process maps documentation which clearly sets out key handoffs and controls for all key processes

Coordination of change management; impacts and testing and engage with the senior stakeholders:
- To ensure best practice processes understood and implemented
- To understand challenges and find opportunities to continually improve the user experience

Ensure Business Continuity Planning is comprehensive, robust and up to date, and the team are fully aware and equipped in the event of any disruption

Ensure Technology Solutions are efficient & effective
Shape the initiatives and IT investments designed to improve Finance processes and drive efficiency

Work with external providers and other companies to understand best in class solutions for finance processes that also drive continual streamlining and/or improvement of system interfaces.

Investigate other opportunities for automation – on shore and offshore

Balance sheet control

Operate a robust balance sheet account management process to underpin delivery of accurate accounting and control
Ensure that the balance sheet accounts are appropriately reconciled, reviewed and provide meaningful analysis

Technical Guidance / External Viewpoint
Provide mentorship and thought leadership via accounting reference documentation / external conferences, on all aspects of IFRS and regulatory reporting environment.
Ad hoc

Support CFO as required to implement changes to accounting policies and reporting as a result of changes to accounting standards and implementation of IFRS, as well as project management tasks

Take leadership on a number of cross finance activities

About you

You will be ACA ACCA qualified or equivalent; with deep experience in a senior accounting role (preferably you will have had experience of working for one of the big 6). You have a strong leadership style and you can demonstrate how you have guided and mentored teams to deliver a strong result for the business. Your dynamic style will be engaging whether presenting to large finance conferences or the Audit committee.

With a tenacious approach, you will be capable of seeing opportunities to improve, simplify systems and/or processes to deliver efficiency. Experience of business planning and change management is essential as well as the ability to negotiate effectively with external suppliers at a senior level.
