Here at Virgin Atlantic (VAA), our Navigation Services team play a key role within Aircraft Operations. No two days are the same; we are constantly working to ensure we have everything in place to guarantee the safe and efficient running of our operation. This is where you come inÖ


Bringing your enthusiasm and passion for aviation, you will maintain and optimise data in our Flight Planning, Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) and aircraft flight management systems. Using your focus and attention to detail, you will evaluate the impact to our operations of any data or airspace changes, providing strategic and tactical support to our 24/7 Operations Control Center team, together with navigation and Air Traffic Management (ATM) expertise to the rest of VAA.


This role will require you to work to an extremely high standard, often under strict time deadlines and excepting that at times requirements may change quickly. That being said, this role is as rewarding as it is varied. You will have the opportunity to work with multiple stakeholders across Virgin Atlantic including Airports, Government Affairs, Finance, Network and Alliances, Safety and Engineering, and play an active role in ensuring the continued success of our operation.

Day to day

Developing good working relationships with third party suppliers and external stakeholders (including regulatory bodies and ANSPs), to leverage the optimal outcome to VA.


Analyse industry developments in the Navigation and ATM field and present reports and recommendations to the Senior Officer Navigation Services.


Continually review navigation data and airspace changes through monitoring of published information and engagement with air navigation service providers. Using this data, accurately maintain Flight Planning, NOTAM and FMS databases, navigation charts and related company procedures. Decide on the most cost effective routing solutions.


Provide briefing/training to other team members and departments on Flight Planning, Navigation and ATM subject matter.


Develop implementation plans for procedural or system changes to maintain compliance with industry regulations.


Work with the Flight planning Supervisor to continuously evolve planning best practice.


Design and maintain required navigational chart content and specifications.


Manage seasonal and ad-hoc overflight permissions for scheduled and ad-hoc charter operations.


Conduct block time/fuel burn analysis as required to support commercial planning.


Contribute to the ongoing development of third party software and participate in the testing of new releases.


Represent the company at industry level through meeting attendance and working group participation.

About you

We are looking for someone who can hit the ground running, this means you will have experience working in an airline flight planning and/or navigation support function.


Youíll have extensive experience of aeronautical information management and Air Traffic Management principles. Knowledge of flight planning, aircraft navigation systems, ARINC 424 and related disciplines is also highly desirable. An innovative approach, reasoning skills, relentless attention to detail and a strong desire to develop effective solutions to drive operational efficiency are a must.


Ideally, you will be educated to A level standard or equivalent and able to write clearly and concisely, communicating confidently with a variety of audiences. If the above sounds like you, we would love to hear from you!
