In a nutshell

We’re looking for an experienced and motivated lead product designer to help build the digital product design practice. Virgin Atlantic is on a journey to embrace the best of digital product design and is currently building a design team to help lead that charge within the business.
 
Reporting to the Head of UX, the Lead Digital Product Designer will work alongside our product managers, analysts, developers and content team. You will have ‘hands on’ design responsibility for your product area: for example, you might be responsible for the booking experience on our website or the in-flight entertainment experience. As a Lead Digital Product Designer, you’ll not only be comfortable across the end-to-end design process: hosting workshops, creating concepts, prototyping, but also delivering beautiful high-fidelity UI designs.
 
Alongside the everyday practice of delivering designs to your product team, this role will act as a lead for the digital product design team. You’ll be able to support other designers, help develop the team’s skills, guide design decisions across all projects and embed the practice of good design across all digital work. This is a new role and part of an exciting expansion plan. This is a unique opportunity to help shape a new team with big plans, whilst designing for one of the world's most loved brands
 

Day to day

Taking conceptual ideas and turning them into something useful and delightful for our users.
 
Setting design standards and guiding multiple teams through tricky design problems
 
Bringing together internal stakeholders and hosting workshops that engage, excite and elicit ideas
 
Setting up and facilitating design sprints
 
Designing flows and experiences that are incredibly simple and elegant
 
Prototyping interactions and interfaces that uphold the unique Virgin Atlantic brand
 
Creating hypothesis to test and assets for optimisation experiments
 
Producing UI assets for the Virgin Atlantic digital design system
 
Partnering with Product Managers, Developers, Researchers and the Content team to oversee the launch and optimisation of your designs.
 
Coaching designers, offering continual support and feedback.

About you

You may be from in-house, agency or freelance – we don’t mind, however you must have proven experience of designing beautiful digital products, ideally in an agile environment. You’ll be a design leader with exacting standards and willingness to continually learn from the team and from our users, alongside having experience of supporting, guiding and line managing designers. You’ll be a team player who naturally collaborates and comfortable working with a diverse group of people to build ingenious experiences.
 
To be successful in this role, you'll actively seek ways to make the Virgin Atlantic experience both visually appealing and simple to use and have the ability to clearly articulate not only what you did, but more importantly why you did it. We love a pretty interface, but we’ll expect to see your design process, so you’ll have a great online portfolio that doesn’t just include visuals.
 
You’ll be well versed in the usual design tools (Sketch, InVision, Axure etc.) and always happy trying out new tools. If this sounds like you, and you have a desire to help build an outstanding team in an iconic brand then we want to hear from you!
