In a nutshell

In this role you'll operate and control the capital accounting processes of the Group balance sheet. This role must deliver accurate, reliable and timely books of account for the VAL Group and its subsidiaries as well as oversee the operation of IFRS compliant capital accounting.

You will be part of a team of 6 and be accountable for delivering high quality, accurate, reliable and technically complete capital accounting expertise for all entities within the Virgin Atlantic Group (Virgin Atlantic and Virgin Holidays). The role will require working closely with the Head of Group Capital as well as the Business Partnering team to ensure all aspects of the Group's Capital transactions are captured and reported accurately.

Day to day

Performing close of month end balance sheet transactions and Ultramain interfaces into G/L as well as ensuring timely, accurate and complete WD3 reporting. 

Interacting with the Business Partner teams (V-Hols and VAA) to ensure that PPE and Inventory transactions are captured appropriately. 
Ensuring that transactions, supporting schedules and accounting papers for polices and conventions are maintained in accordance with IFRS. 
Operating a robust balance sheet account management process to underpin delivery of accurate book-keeping and delivering timely and robust PPE, Property Provisioning (Onerous Lease and Dilapidations) and Inventory (engineering and In-flight) accounting processes in particular.
You will deliver timely and robust analysis and reporting and reconciliation processes as well as accurate Capital accounting schedules to meet all statutory, regulatory, shareholder and management reporting requirements.
You will assist in the preparation of the audit file as well as helping to deliver the external audit process to successful and efficient conclusion.
Developing and maintaining process documentation which clearly sets out key handoffs and controls for all key capital accounting processes.
Working with Engineering to ensure that the interface between Ultramain operates efficiently and the accounting flows are understood and documented with efficiencies delivered where appropriate.
Highlighting any system or procedural issues that may impede the reconciliation/reporting process.
Providing on-going support by participating in major projects or taking ownership of smaller projects.    

About you

With a relevant qualification (ACA/ACCA) you will have the ability to articulate technical accounting subject matter with respect to PPE and Intangibles and have a sound appreciation of management accounting and financial systems - preferably Oracle financials (FA Module in particular) with the skill to implement new systems and accounting modules.  Previous experience with Business Objects and an ability to dissect, redesign and implement process change as well risk assessment and design of appropriate, proportionate controls is also essential.

With an ability to optimise processes, identify weak processes and controls for improvement, you will possess a proven capability to prioritise work, work under pressure and deliver to tight deadlines. With a resilient personality and the ability to self-motivate you will be positive and take a pragmatic approach to achieving results.  You'll also need great attention to detail and pursuit of accuracy as well as a high level of analytical skills and be financially astute.  Strong MS Office skills (especially Excel) is essential. 
Ideally you'll also be able to show a thorough understanding of Airline and Travel Group PPE accounting, in particular fleet and IT project accounting and have strong influencing/interpersonal capability, especially with senior teams to challenge and drive sound accounting decisions.
