In a nutshell

This is a fantastic opportunity for a Flight Planning Specialist, to join our Flight Operations team at Virgin Atlantic (VAA). This role will be to provide fully optimised Flight Plans for all Virgin Atlantic flights that are released in accordance with both the company and European Aviation Safety Agency operations manuals.

You will be working in the Operational Control Center and you will act as the Flight Operations representative within the Aircraft Operations team. You will be answering (or re-directing as applicable) technical questions and record as required.

Day to day

Decide which factors will affect the outcome of the flight, and the Operational Flight Plan.

Accurate event logging allowing for an operational review / trending.

Liaise with Authorities & Service providers as required. 

Provide Flight Planning Support to aid the safe continuation of the flight. 

Conduct a detailed analysis of weather and Notice To Airman (NOTAM's) for each flight.

Interaction with other tactical operational areas to help provide effective & timely solutions to operational issues. 

Check aircraft performance capabilities with regards to airfield and runway suitability.

Effective communication required with the second duty Specialist - Flight Planning to ensure operational requirements are covered. 

Highlight significant issues affecting the flight to the Flight Crew, briefing the Flight Crew if necessary. 

About you

As the Flight Planning Specialist, you will have operational experience in a Flight Planning environment. You will have satisfactorily completed a formal training course as a Flight Planner or Flight Dispatcher or equivalent. You ideally with have knowledge in the following areas: Flight Planning systems, Crew Briefing Procedures, aircraft performance capabilities and aeronautical data & navigational charts.

As you will be responsible for conveying a variety of important business information, you will have a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. You’ll have an analytical thought process when assessing operational situations as this essential when dealing with the complexities of the Flight Planning department. Having the ability to prioritise and multitask is important, as this will be required on a daily basis. If the above sounds like you, we would love to hear from you!
