In a nutshell

Do you have a love for travel and data? Are you already managing data as an asset, or determining its strategy, or a Data Scientist / Advanced Analyst who is thinking of moving into product management? Does the idea of product managing and driving value out of data(sets) in an airline make you excited? If so, you might be the right candidate we are looking for at Virgin Atlantic.
We are building something incredibly exciting at Virgin Atlantic that no other major airline has done. We are taking our pioneering spirit that began in 1984 and applying that to the digital and data world that we live in today. We are taking a huge step forward in piloting a cloud-first approach to our data and are looking to use our unique Virgin flair to provide an unmatched personalised service on board enabled by a 21st century approach to data.
As such we are looking for a Product Manager to work on bringing business value through building our data platform and catalogue of data in the cloud. Our platform is nascent and our data is untapped. You will be a part of the creation of a new team dedicated to solving difficult problems and utilising data across the business to build the next generation of tools to enable a better customer experience and a more profitable airline. You’ll be very much hands on in creating a new paradigm for a well-loved brand.

Day to day

You will work directly with key business stakeholders, at all levels of the business, to identify and analyse opportunities to improve our products in ways that will deliver significant business value
Creates and be responsible for the detailed product backlog for the next 12 months in line with the strategic goals and objectives of the Head of Data and Insight.
Deep understanding of the Virgin Atlantic business model & drivers, as well as similar models/competitors, and have an intuition of the impact product changes may have on our data
Consult existing teams on currently built reports and dashboards; reducing unnecessary metrics and increasing insight from existing visualisations
Mine large amounts of data and extract useful product insights, whilst having the responsibility of ensuring the data quality measures and reports are available and socialised
Manage development of data resources, gather requirements, organize sources, and support commercial decisions
Be a pivotal part of administering our Data Governance Board and managing data governance work streams across our business and ensuring the documentation of our data in the cloud is up to date and is of good quality

About you

With proven experience as a product manager delivering features from start to finish in an Agile environment. You’ll be entrepreneurial, inquisitive and have a relentless focus on delivering business value. You will have shown success in driving data change in non-tech focused businesses and dedication to collaboration whilst doing so. People follow you because you’re inspiring, not because you are their boss. You need to be determined, focused on results, a self-starter, and have demonstrated success in using data to drive the understanding, progression, and business value in optimising a customer journey or in a commercial / marketing / sales world.
It is preferable that you have a Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Maths, Physics, Engineering, or related quantitative field alongside experience with large data sets and distributed computing (Cloud based environment experience a plus). With experience writing user stories and prioritising them to get a feature built to a tight timeline, you’ll have managed data collection or data projects, including requirements gathering, documentation of data models, data governance and cataloguing and working closely with data engineering functions.
If the above sounds like you and you can recognise and keep track of all the moving pieces in projects, adjusting to new information and goals, possess first-class influencing skills, including experience working within a large matrix organization then we want to hear from you!
