In a nutshell

In this role, you will manage the Virgin Atlantic Airways (VAA) slot portfolio (including Slot Leasing and Slot securitisation transactions) as well as implementing and managing the Long term Flying Programme, optimising Fleet introductions (i.e the A350) and deployments, operational resilience, operational efficiency and asset utilisation and protection across the Fleet. 


You will also maintain and grow Virgin Atlantics influence in the LHR and LGW Capacity declaration process and be responsible for ensuring that VAA is represented and treated fairly by Airport and Slot Coordination Authorities.


Finally as the Long term schedules planner you will also work closely with the VAA Airports and Government Affairs teams to ensure that VAA obtains the best outcome in the future LHR RWY3 and LHR Colocation projects

Day to day

Management of the Heathrow runway slot portfolio to an optimal value, from operational and commercial perspectives ensuring that assets are protected and that the airline obtains the best value from its slots.


Management of the development of the VAA long term flying programme, liaising with Operations and Commercial teams to ensure that the schedule is optimal for both operational and commercial constraints.


Representing Virgin Atlantic in discussions involving Heathrow Airport Ltd (HAL), Airport Coordination Ltd (ACL), National Air Traffic Services (NATS) and other airlines to maximise slot.


Ensuring that all slot activity supports slot financing regulations and parameters. Ensuring the conditions of the VAA Slot Securitisation programme are fully met at all times.


Managing the use of Schedules Planning systems to maintain and improve departmental and business efficiency.


Representing Commercial and participating in the VAA Emergency Procedures Response Team and maintaining communication with the wider group of Commercial representatives. 


You will be responsible for developing, motivating and coaching the Scheduling team in order to improve engagement and performance across the team.

About you

To be successful in this role, it is essential that you have experience in managing slots and aircraft scheduling along with the ability to optimise complicated lines of flying. Experience of longer term Airport Capacity Planning and an in depth understanding of the Airport Capacity Declaration process is also important. Finally an understanding and experience of contract writing and negotiation is also beneficial.  Educated to a degree level or with proven airline related expertise, either in an operational or commercial sphere, you will have great knowledge of market dynamics for our network. Proven expertise in the use of Microsoft Excel and presenting complex issues to a wide audience is also required.


Commercially aware, you will be analytical and numerate with strong technical abilities and be able to solve complicated multi-level problems through logical thinking. You will be a great communicator with the ability to influence both internal and external stakeholders at every level.
