This is a fantastic opportunity for a Technical Publications Assistant to join our Flight Operations department at Virgin Atlantic (VAA). You’ll see that revisions and amendments from companies including the Civil Aviation Authority, Airbus and Boeing are updated in our numerous Operations Manuals. Compiling and editing text and XML data, as well as producing material and artwork for publication.
The nature of the role has a ‘flight safety critical’ status, therefore high levels of concentration/focus and attention to detail is paramount, ensuring accuracy at all times. The role will also be required to support ‘administratively’ Aircraft Operations throughout the fixed term contract.
Update electronic source files using the hand-written or electronic mark-ups supplied by the Authors, maintaining the structure format of the manual, to include updating of graphics where required.
Ensuring cross-references/table of contents/indexes of manuals are up-to-date.
Responsible for ensuring own work meets agreed standards, which involves proofreading the revision for any possible errors on format and/or technical content, and checking hyperlinks within and across manuals.
Ownership of delegated work ensuring processes are followed and completion of agreed deadlines.
Liaising with UK CAA for manual approvals, outside Printing Suppliers and internal Technical Library for distribution.
The output and uploading of various manual formats to support company intranet, aircraft installed Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) and Pilot portable EFBs.
Administration Support for key Aircraft Operations Stakeholders during the fixed term period. This will include activities such as coordinating both internal and external (CAA) meetings regarding Aircraft procedures and approvals.
As a Technical Publications Assistant, you will have excellent organisational, typing and communication skills and have a methodical approach to your work. Ideally you will have previous experience in a similar role within Aviation.This role requires editing of publications, so understanding of computer mark-up languages (SGML/XML/HTML) and content/document management systems is vital to this role, as is Microsoft Office Suite; Excel, Word and Outlook. You’ll be using graphic packages to also support with the editing of documents and this will include; CorelDraw and Paint Shop Professional.
