This is a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Design and Development Engineer to join our Engineering Department. This role will be responsible for providing technical and design expertise for the operation and development of the (Virgin Atlantic) VAA engine fleet.
You will be responsible for specifying and implementing company maintenance and modification policies for maximum safety and reliability at optimum cost, ensuring all mandatory requirements are met. You’ll also be responsible for the administration of repair and overhaul contracts and providing subject matter expertise for repair and overhaul contract negotiation for Engines, Auxiliary Power Unit's and Thrust Reversers and other major engine system components.
Deliver effective communication to the team, management, Engineering and the airline ensuring escalation strategies are developed.
Use the Lean Information centre to drive continuous improvement for processes and reduce wastage, and improve cost control across the business.
Provide direction to team members, explaining what needs to be done and why.
Provide practical advice to develop the team’s understanding and ability.
Ensure the ultimate safety and Airworthiness of the operation within the framework of the Regulatory Authority and Legislation requirements, whilst optimising cost.
Monitor the in-service condition and performance of engines and scheduling engine changes to minimise disruption to the operation.
Manage and control spare engine availability.
Review manufacturer’s communication to assess operational impact on safety, reliability and commercial implications an implement action plans and maintenance policies as necessary.
Develop and regularly review applicable Engine, APU or Thrust Reverser “on wing” maintenance policies based on safety, technical performance, reliability and cost of ownership, with a firm focus of life cycle cost management.
To provide a complete technical support service to all departments within the airline responding to operational problems, incidents and AOG situations, providing solutions to problems often beyond the scope of the manufacturers
As a Senior Design and Development Engineer, you will have a Degree/HND in an Engineering-related subject or a background as a licensed Aircraft Engineer. You will be able to demonstrate awareness of EASA regulations, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) documentation and aircraft technical publications.
Ideally, you will have senior technical experience across a variety of aircraft systems, gained within an airline or OEM engineering department. Flexible and adaptable, you’ll be excellent at multi-tasking and prioritising. With a collaborative approach, you’ll have excellent written and verbal communication skills together with the ability to problem solve. You will have experience of running projects to a clear deliverables and consistently meeting deadlines. Previous Part M and Part 21 and knowledge of Virgin Atlantics existing fleet of aircraft (Boeing 747, 787, A340) is highly desirable. If the above sounds like you, we would love to hear from you!
