As a Safety Investigator, you will be responsible for carrying out engineering safety investigations into incidents and near misses. You’ll be contributing to the development of corporate safety standards and assisting in maintaining those standards through reactive and proactive Safety/Risk Management. You have input to the continuous improvement of the Corporate Safety & Security Management System also.
Provision of technical safety expertise to other parts of Virgin Atlantic (VAA)
Engineering Incident investigation and reporting of reportable occurrences to the relevant regulatory body
Undertaking Safety Audits / Safety Assessments as defined by the Corporate Safety Manager to ensure compliance to safety standards
Liaising with and advising company training departments on safety best practice and examples of successes and failures to ensure up to date safety knowledge is cascaded to VAA personnel
Providing Operational risk assessment guidance, training & facilitation to business unit management and staff when required to build in house safety capability
Active member of the On-Site investigation team and Crisis Management Centre (CMC) in conjunction with Corporate Safety & Security
Analysing and presenting safety performance data
Dissemination of safety related information and feedback from events and investigations using internal communications media to ensure organisational learning and continuous improvement
Be visible in the business in order to listen to the people delivering the service/operation and build this into safety plans
Represent VAA at industry working groups to promote the safety agenda
As a Safety Investigator, you will have a genuine desire to make a difference to safety. You will have integrity and independence with an ability to balance safety and risk against business and operational demands with a confident and positive approach. You’ll have the ability to think analytically and creatively in order to arrive at effective solutions.
You will have a strong Aviation Engineering background with a detailed technical knowledge and experience of the operational area and investigation/interview techniques. You will have specific safety related qualifications/experience and work experience, specifically within Engineering. Operational Safety Risk assessment techniques and data interpretation experience would be an advantage. If the above sounds like you, we would love to hear from you!
