As Quality Assurance Surveyor you'll ensure that Virgin Atlantic Airways (VAA) maintains its operation to the highest possible airworthiness standards as required by the company, UKCAA, EASA and IATA.
You'll perform global surveillance and audits over the entire spectrum of the company’s aircraft engineering, flight operations and ground operations activities. This will include those companies contracted to repair, overhaul and maintain the aircraft and their component parts, or supply any service to Virgin Atlantic that could affect engineering, flight or ground operational standards.
The purpose of this activity is to identify any deficiencies within VAA or external contracted agencies to ensure compliance with the appropriate regulations and conformance to company policies and procedures.
Ensuring that all regulatory and legal requirements, statutory responsibilities and directives pertaining to the airline's operations are in compliance.
Take account of changing regulatory requirements and change across the airline.
Ensuring effective decisions are made that will deliver the highest technical and operational standards.
To carry out effective audits and reviews of all areas of Flight, Ground and Engineering Operations and to report any discrepancies in a timely manner.
To monitor organisational, regulatory (EASA, UKCAA) and internal process changes and update the audit checklists accordingly to ensure continued compliance.
Liaise, guide & advise all area’s involved in new products or procedures that affect airworthiness & operations and ensure continued compliance as required.
Audits and reviews
Maintain oversight of the management system across VAA in order to assure our AOC.
Carry out reviews and audits in order to provide safety and security assurance of all operations (front line and back office).
Carry out planned audits as determined by the published audit schedule in accordance with the procedures laid down in the Quality Manual.
Carry out audits on all activities related to flight operations to ensure that high standards of aircraft operation prevail and that manufacturer and authority recommendations are adopted.
Carry out audits on flight and ground operations at base and line stations plus any subcontractors used by Virgin Atlantic.
Carry out audits on aircraft to ensure that high standards of maintenance and workmanship prevail, and that mandatory modification and inspections have been incorporated in accordance with the manufacturers and authorities’ requirements.
Survey the aircraft maintenance at base and line stations plus any contracted sites used by Virgin Atlantic.
Carry out reviews to ensure continued oversight of airline partners.
Through quality assurance/compliance monitoring activity, support, develop and assess quality controls’, ensuring continuous improvement is achieved across the business.
Issue Dispensations, Extensions and Variations to operational and technical EASA requirements (subject to holding the relevant authorisation).
Carry out Airworthiness Reviews, extending and renewing Airworthiness Review Certificates across the fleets.
Engage with project working groups where required in order to ensure continued compliance through change.
Assist all areas of the business with advice on regulatory and airworthiness matters.
In respect of aircraft acquisitions and imports, liaise with the relevant authorities, manufacturers and owners in order to ensure aircraft are suitably certified.
Provide assurance to the business through oversight of operating partnerships.Review and authorise approval and license applications
We are looking for the right person with a combination of skills and experience in the following areas:
-Pilot or equivalent ground or flight operational experience or licenced/degree level aircraft/Part M engineer
-Experience in a supervisory or management position
-Audit experience of Flight Operations, Ground Operations, Aviation Security or Aircraft Maintenance
-Lead Auditor qualification highly advantageous
-Knowledge of ANO and EASA-OPS aircraft operational requirements highly desirable
-Knowledge of EASA and UK CAA aircraft maintenance and continuing airworthiness requirements highly desirable
-Working knowledge of UK DfT NASP and US DoHS TSA aviation security requirements advantageous
You will have strong communication skills with the ability to negotiate at all levels up to and including Director level at external companies. Report writing experience up to Executive Level. You will need to be able to travel overseas at short notice and to be flexible when immediate changes to the audit schedule occur. Having the ability to hold an airside ID is essential.
