In a nutshell

This is a great time to join us in Virgin Atlantic and Virgin Holidays recently formed Technology Centre of Excellence. You’ll support the Principal Enterprise Architect and VP of Architecture to establish IT strategy and translate strategic intent into actions that drive business and technology change. This role is one of an enterprise domain specialist who understands the business process drivers, how information technology enables these processes and is able to guide and influence the transformation of the business.


Utilising your knowledge of data related technologies (from Big Data solutions, document stores, RDBMS and Graph Database, to Analytics, visualisations, data science, ML, integration technologies etc) along with your business understanding and information management skills you’ll plot a path that really adds value to our customers and business.

Day to day

Influence the direction of projects towards a long term target architecture with regular stakeholder engagement actively communicate and distribute knowledge to the wider team and business.


Supporting maintenance of enterprise planning models – including both technical and business architectures.


Following principles, governance, guidelines and templates for driving value through the design and delivery phases.


Ensuring the future-proofing and consistency of enterprise-business solutions in the enterprise architecture domains.


Supporting RFP’s and Business Benefits Realisation Planning and governance processes through best-practice; e.g. an Architecture Review Board (ARB).


Engagement of stakeholders to produce key artefacts; e.g. supporting Terms and Reference and Architecture Vision.


Ensuring an agile consistent process and approach across multiple similar programmes to drive synergies and value across the architecture domains.


Engaging with multiple Stakeholders on complex projects understanding fully the enterprise roadmap from business requirements.

Supporting and driving enterprise innovation (e.g. reducing complexity in systems/infrastructure) while managing security and risk/audit priorities.


Initiative to drive, own and be the point-person for all solution issues in the particular domain(s) of expertise.

Demonstrable contribution to the strategic goals and guidelines of the overall architecture practice.

About you

The ideal candidate will use their subject matter expertise to develop, maintain and share the knowledge of the underlying data, the systems producing it, what its used for, what it could be used for and what it means from a business context. You’ll have the ability to collaborate with various technical and business stake holders to deliver a set of artefact's and products that enable our data transformation. As a confident communicator with experience of working effectively with people from all levels as well as third party suppliers (including off shore) this will enable you to build and manage stakeholder relationships successfully. You’ll be degree educated or equivalent, with a proven track record of aligning and communicating with enterprise and business stakeholders.


Airline, Travel or similar industry background is desirable with proven experience in a number of design and delivery paradigm’s (incl Agile). You’ll have experience in several architectural roles related to applications, information and data with experience in maintaining Architectural models at multiple levels. You will have experience in big data style technologies, be experienced in designing and implementing multiple data technologies and have a proven track record of clear analytical thinking; but with a pragmatic edge. Relational and non-relational databases is essential


You’ll have experience with Machine Learning (AI/IA/GI), Visualisation and reporting technologies and Integration (Near Real-Time and batch). With experience in using enterprise architecture tools being a must you’ll have a demonstrable understanding of key business data and typical systems (e.g. CRM, HR, preferably Airline PSS).
