In a nutshell

This role will support and deliver our current payments strategy and emerging technologies within the alternative payments space. Working with the Head of Distribution and a variety of business stakeholders in a matrix fashion, this role will develop and deliver change projects that will support our payment strategy both current and future. You'll be responsible for the day to day management and tactical development of the on-going ability of Virgin Atlantic Airways (VAA) to accept card payments (and in the future alternative payments) globally, through the management of the day to day operational relationships with external & internal Card processing counterparts.

 

As a member of the Distribution Strategy team this role will focus on the end-to-end delivery of specific payments projects, account manage our supplier key relationships externally (including Lloyds TSB Cardnet, Amex, Realex, Datacash, Accelya, Citi etc) and internally with others across the business (including senior managers across VAA and Virgin Group) and in order to deliver high quality payment services.

Day to day

Ensure the on-going ability of VAA to accept card payments globally (£1.3bn per annum) through the effective management of the operational relationship with external Card processing counterparties, including but not limited to Payment Service Providers (PSPs), Acquiring Banks and Card Schemes as well as internal counterparties including but not limited to eBusiness, Res,Ticketing, IT, Airports and global finance teams.
 
Responsible for primary (with escalation where required) response to internal and external counterparties in a timely manner to resolve card processing problems to limit potential revenue losses (e.g. £3m per day processed through primary PSP)
 
Produce and develop a suite of meaningful management information and operational analysis (e.g. sales channel trend analysis) on a basis determined & monthly contractual acquirer compliance reporting. This requires effective working with internal (Revenue Accounts, Finance) and external (PSPs, acquirers) counterparties to improve the accuracy of reporting and develop new reports as required.
 
Feedback to the business the cost of card acceptance (circa £25M per year), whilst striving to take action to keep these costs to a minimum to maximise overall company revenues
 
Responsible for supporting to develop card supplier strategy both in relation to receivables (over 90% of receivables received via credit/debit card transactions either directly or indirectly) and also payables. Including for the negotiation of new agreements and the on-going management of all supplier relationships.
 
Responsible for the operational set up and control of both cardholders present and cardholder not present payment channels globally by working with relevant external counterparts to ensure that all required payment methods are available in a timely manner.
 
Strategic participant in projects at operational level including projects with very high impact on the business (up to and including potential ‘going concern’ risks (e.g. PCI, backup PSP, multiple acquirers, and alternative payment methods (e.g. eWallets).
 
Oversee the roll out of alternative payment providers including UATP, PayPal, Bit Coin for example to ensure VAA offers a competitive portfolio of payment alternatives on a global basis that will drive increased revenues and maximise customer reach.
 
Embed and integrate payments best practice and risk management compliance practices into day to day business processes to both improve operational efficiency and comply with card scheme rules and regulations and develop, through effective analysis, useful feedback and commentary to the business to assist and add value to their onward decision making, via the Payments Forum.
 
Responsible for the operational review of card acceptance procedures globally and train and implement standardised card acceptance procedures to support corporate cards strategy to maximise the efficiency and minimise the risk of accepting card payments globally.

About you

With the ability to influence business colleagues at all levels within the organisation you'll have a tactical and practical day to day problem solving approach. You'll have knowledge of International operational payment practices and have the ability to build credible and strong relationships with both internal and external cards counterparts. It is preferable but not essential to have a degree in a marketing/commercial/business or economics discipline
 
You'll have the ability to influence operational change, be solution orientated with the ability to distill complex issues into easily understood and actionable recommendations. With proven experience and ability to conduct business impact analysis and planning, you'll have strong levels of attention to detail with demonstrated strong communication and presentation development capabilities.
 
Experience within the Airline Distribution Space and knowledge of airline distribution concepts including GDS, online distribution and/or payment acceptance is preferred but not essential. If the above sounds like you and you have the ability to learn new IT systems quickly and proactively, whilst also suggesting user enhancements if applicable and have demonstrated the ability to work well with others in a fast-paced time-sensitive environment then we want to hear from you!
